The mission of Fondation Leducq is to improve human health through international efforts to combat cardiovascular disease.  

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. It is now recognized that cardiovascular disease, including hypertension, is a significant health problem in the developing world. Worldwide, the burden of disease is well over one billion people, and increasing.

The 20th century bore witness to great strides in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Impressive developments in therapeutics, from technological and surgical interventions to innovative pharmaceuticals, have prevented the deaths and eased the suffering of many.

The Fondation Leducq was created with the idea that the fight against cardiovascular disease is an international one. By forging scientific alliances that transcend national borders we hope to be able to allow an innovative and efficient use of cardiovascular research resources, all the while promoting international cooperation in this great cause.
